In the interests of getting any conversation going, I'll ask about people's experiences with martial arts after injury. I used to do a lot of stuff starting in 1983, aikido and aikijiujitsu and kobudo and stuff, and got wrecked physically eventually. I know people endorse tai chi and bagua/pagua as milder martial arts but still not fake or wimpy, but does anyone have experience with having done a good amount of martial arts and then finding someone else that they like which is suited to them? Thanks!

Hi, everyone! I'm new to dreamwidth and this community. I just wanted to say a little about myself. I'm V, and I'm currently a mudansha in Shotokan Karate. I've been training for about 8 months and am near gaining my blue belt. My teacher is my husband who is in his 5th dan. Without Shotokan (and other important things) I wouldn't be as near as stable and healthy as I am. In a way, it has saved my life. Long live martial arts! :)

Hi. So. Just found this (quiet) community and figured I'd ask here something I'm planning on asking at my TKD class tonight...

In order to get through my next test (I'm yellow, testing for orange), I need to do a break. It'll be my first break, and the yellow belt break is listed as "choice." So I have No Clue what to do. My favorite kick, and the one with the most power, is a roundhouse, but that's considered a high level break because of aim, etc.

Any TKD folks out there who remember being new to it all and their earliest breaks?

Oh, and as a brief introduction, hiii...I've been doing TKD since May, although I've been hanging around the school for almost four years now. My son will be testing for his black belt (if all goes well) in the spring, so I've seen it all, but it's still new for me to be doing it. But it's also way cool to be able to practice with him as he's trying to remember all the early forms, and I'm just learning them. And hey, I have a reference in the house when I learn new forms going forward! :) Anyway, I'm thoroughly in love with TKD and wish I could find a way to get to class more consistently. It's really helped me build up my endurance in just these few months, and even when I'm exhausted, it just feels GOOD afterwards.
